Been reading a book about business, yes another one, but it mentions something that I've read now in 3 books. Yes 3 different books.
The 1000 {I meant 10,000 pardon the error} hour rule. I must confess, I first read it in: This is your Brain on Music. Then Malcolm Gladwell's book The Outliers' entire premise is based upon the 1000 hour rule.
Basically, it says that in order to master something, you must have spent a sum of 1000 {again I meant 10000} hours practicing something (obviously with diligence). Malcolm's book is a variation on the 1000 {10000 again} hour rule, inasmuch as he points to the fact that an act such as The Beatles were certainly a great talent that were destined for success, but also they had put in the requisite 1000 {10000} hours at the right time and the right place in order for their success be be so fantastically grande - to put it mildly. It is quite an interesting read - would recommend it - all of his books as a matter of fact.
I found an old 'TextEdit' note that I jotted down about 6 or 7 months ago when he first released The Outliers. (I use TextEdit on my Mac to jot down notes and save them in various places, and then find them later somewhere... gotta come up with a better system, I know)
This came straight from his book, and it's inspiring... very inspiring:
autonomy, complexity and a connection between effort and reward are the 3 qualities that work has to have in order for it to be satisfying... does it fulfill you... MEANINGFUL... physician... ENTREPRENEUR...hard work is a prison sentence only if does not have meaning... the children of the garment workers... if you work hard enough and ASSERT yourself and use your mind and imagination you can shape the world to your desires... ~ Malcolm Gladwell, The Outliers
That's all. Good thought for food.
